00:00 Ralph Lauren Purple Label Introduction

Few American brands carry the prestige that Ralph Lauren’s Purple Label conveys. The line is known for its impeccable craftsmanship and is also no stranger to demanding an equally exorbitant price tag. When looking to make such an investment into your wardrobe, you’ll probably be wondering if the brand truly lives up to the hype.

01:26 The Basics of the Ralph Lauren Purple Label

Ralph Lauren Purple Label is the highest end of Ralph Lauren’s different tiers of offerings and was launched in 1994. Today, most of the Purple Label Line is made in Italy or sometimes England.

The extra attention to quality and detail makes the purple label line sell at even higher prices at retail than anything else Ralph Lauren offers.

04:43 The Ethos of the Purple Label Line

Ralph Lauren Purple Label is heavily inspired by the English style of tailoring and is meant to be an “Americanized Savile Row”, with a twist. Purple Label clothing is usually marketed with a whimsical and exaggerated version of preppy, Old Money aesthetics.

While it does have a more formal and traditional appeal, the company is making significantly more effort to appear fresh and innovative with younger crowds.

07:09 What To Buy: Suits & Jackets

14:58 What Not To Buy: Swimwear

18:12 Dress Shirts
19:46 Leather Goods

When looking at the Purple Label brand as a whole, we can’t help but admire what they’ve been able to accomplish. It’s true that at retail pricing, it’s very expensive and out of reach for many.
However, it can be a great option for those who have the change, and who want to visualize the entire look before they buy it.

We think the value of the brand truly shines when you can acquire it second-hand. This takes the sting out of the full retail price while offering the exceptionally made styling and qualities that the brand can offer.

As an FYI Ralph Lauren does offer purple label bespoke suiting. It’s not widely advertised, and typically starts around 8-10k per suit it is a true bespoke experience with an in house tailor. The process for your initial suit is around 12 weeks. They keep your measurements on file which makes subsequent suits with a 6-8 week turn around time.

It wasn't purple label, but I finally started building my own classic style wardrobe, and browsing jackets at my local Goodwill, I found a very nice vintage trench coat from Ralph Lauren, absolutely no damage, and fits like a glove! Always wanted a coat like this, and I was absolutely ecstatic! I knew it was of good quality, thanks to the Gentleman's Gazette, but I didn't realize that it was originally a $600 coat!...I spent $8. Definitely my best find thus far.

Thank you as always to you guys for providing all of the information I could ever need to start dressing like a gentleman! I've been a viewer for about 3 years, but i've just begun, and my journey is certainly off to a good start.

I bought 2 RL Purple garments to celebrate 45 years marriage. A Velvet burgundy dinner jacket & a rope stripe peak lapel suit. Now I understand why RL Purple Label is so good to wear. WOW 💥 you have to wear RL Purple, to understand.

In 2015, a random polo store in a NJ outlet was converted to a Ralph lauren clearance center for a few months and carried tons of RLPL at tremendous discounts. Suits were $150, sport jackets were $100, shirts were $25. It was amazing! I bought a ton and greatly regret not buying much more. Also because I sold most of it and didn’t appreciate how rare of opportunity this was. In particular, really regret not getting tan linen sport jacket that would be amazing every summer.

I’ve got some cords and a couple polos from Purple Label. They are among my favorite pieces that I own.

I used to live in an effluent area where the local Goodwill stores carried a wide range of high-end brands. Certainly, finding a suit, shirt, or tie with the purple label made it without exception into the shopping buggy. As a result, I have four two-piece suits, several shirts and many ties with the unmistakable shiny purple label I would otherwise not be able to afford. Knowing your brands in situations like this allow for a very nice collection of first quality clothing items made for any event you may need to dress for. Some of the shirts are too small but make for a great gift for that hard to buy for family member.

Polos from purple label are well worth double the polo price. They dont lose color ever after washing like the polo ones and they stay soft after every wash. They are also lighter and dont shrink.

Considering how many luxury brands have lost quality and sell only for the brand name, I think we really do need to give Ralph Lauren Purple Label respect for what they offer.

The trouser and dress shirt offerings from Purple Label in my opinion are actually very high quality in my experience HOWEVER you do have to be more on the slim side otherwise they won't fit you

When I dress up, I'm more "Corporate Goth" and less prep, but even then I find there are a few RL Purple Label pieces I can incorporate into my wardrobe. Plus, the fall/winter collections are always so cozy!

I have a pair of their gray flannel trousers with side adjusters, its my favorite fall and Winter dressy pants, very comfortable for being wool

Most of my suits are from the 30s and 40s. The proportions back then work perfectly for my body with a really high rise in the trousers and a fuller drape cut.

I don't fit in Purple label neither does my budget😂. But a signature Polo shirt with pima cotton a must for a timeless collection . Thanks for the video 👍

The Keaton 'cutaway' collar on Purple Label shirts is perfect. I've tried several ties to have it replicating in custom, and it's just never as good.

Great video! I love Ralph Lauren clothing for myself. It consistently fits me very well for my body type.
I adore Ralph Lauren Polo Green on a man or, even for myself. On my skin, the dry down smells like freshly baked leftover pie dough topped with cinnamon and sugar.
Thanks gents! Have a fantastic week!

I love RL purple label, wearing a blazer and white linen shirt from PL right now! Unfortunately only PL that lives up to RL style these days

The RL Purple Label scent is great. 😎👍
I managed to purchase a number of Purple Label items heavily discounted, which makes me like them even more. 🙂
Although it's funny to see the original retail prices are twice or triple (or more) that of the Polo line, but mostly without the brand's logos.
I.e. highly sophisticated, without (most) people noticing. 👔😉
