Hi guys, today the ones who love Chet Baker will recognize the song easily I guess. The standard is way older though, since « My Melancholy baby » was composed in 1917 by Ernie Burnett, with lyrics by George Norton. It has been played by many greats, from different era (Django Reinhardt, Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker, Chet Baker etc).

I’m playing a 1942 D’Angelico Excel, strung with nickel strings round wound gauge 13. I’m using a Dunlop vortex 1.5mm pick and the sound is captured by a Neumann TLM 103 and a Bluebird microphone.

Many of the old songs, like this one and I meet my million dollar baby at the five and ten cent store, remind me of my dad back in the 50s and 60s when he’d sing them or play the records.

so nice, but I thought D'Angelico is your melancholy baby at first!

Have you tried modern archtops? I mean build by current luthiers. Would be great to hear you play a Trenier for example
