I've been experimenting with slog footage and got everything dialed in but still footage was looking flat after color correction and grade. The one thing different that you did that no one has done yet and which just made all the differences was you "crushed" your mid-tones instead of your shadows. That made all the difference. Powerful work brother. Thank you.

Just a note to SLOG exposure. If you overexpose, you will get lower noise levels. If you do not overexpose you will get a way higher dynamic range but also a lot more noise.

Awesome video Pete. Never been able to get great colors out of Slog2 so I switched to hlg2 and the colors pop now.
Might give Slog 2 another crack for my broll sequences. Hlg2 is almost good enough out of camera, so much faster than slog2.

Hey, Peter, I really appreciate your videos, but I’m pretty sure placing Color Finale above Cine Grade makes it apply first. Final Cut does a top-down application, where the effects toward the bottom are applied after those that come above them. You can test this for yourself or look it up, and either way your videos are still amazing and helpful. Cheers!

Great video Peter. I'm working in Adobe but it's just another tool, the things you do apply there as well. Going to try grading like you. Have you ever tried any of the Loupedeck control surfaces? I got the plus and love it when I color grade. Then they came with the CT and that changed everything. Had to ge it. It speeds up everything with both editing and grading. I'm loving it. Just realized that Cinema Grade is only available on MAC OS at this time. No WINDOWS version out right now, but appears a Windows version is being worked on and possible available later this summer. 😩😩😩

Just a tip Peter, you shouldn't use s log in low light because you comprises the gradient of the sensor, you are more likely to get artifacts. This is because all the variance on the sensor is pushed towards the centre of the centre grading of the sensor. So your increments are not as defined. When it is bright it is an advantage because you have more dynamic range. Best to shoot in just neutral in low light.
