Ricciado demonstrated at McLaren that his speed depends on a suitable car. Great drivers adapt. First Lando and now Yuki are proving to be fast and adaptable. Ricciardo is deficient. He can't adapt. He's done for. Bring in Lawson, and I'd wager money that he's closer to Tsunoda than Ricciardo can get, and possibly faster.

I think it's a car thing; you don't 'unlearn' driving.
But unlike guys like Max and Fernando, Dan is not good at adapting to the quirks of a car.
When the car does what he wants he'll be very competitive, but now..
And let's not kid ourselves here; that car isn't exactly great to begin with;
What Yuki manages to do with it... amazing.

Ricciardo actuallly almost didn't made it to RB in 2014.
He was neck and neck with Jean Eric Vergne and RB decided to pick him because he had better qualifying skills, while Ver was sometimes struggling for one lap pace.

It's highly exaggerated that his time were comparable to Max, first of all because those are only claims, secondly because he drove with very low fuel and perfect quality set up on a track that was extremely 'clean' thanks to the rubber accumulated during the weekend (it was also warmer, which facilitated his performance).

Ricciardo and Max also don't have exactly the same approach, Max has an early turn in, not Ricciardo.

Always going to root for Danny Ricc until I can’t. His ties to the Bills mafia and Josh has a lot to do with it. He’s gotta change something and put the hours in on the simulator. There’s a reason the older drivers have struggled with the new ground effect cars and the young bucks get in and are fast off the bat.

I have the same sympathy for Ricciardo. He was once my favorite until the fall at McLaren.

Riccardo was washed up 5 years ago - the fact he is still there is a FARCE and has brought the sport into disrepute - my non racing friends have asked me if F1 is like American Wrestling now - with drivers not really much good just there for show.
