About Wario and melee: he was originally designed to be in the game, but was ultimately excluded since the designers were running low on time and didn’t want him to be a clone of Mario. Which is why Dr. Mario is a playable character

I like this history a character throughout a franchise for characters that either don't have much lore like Wario or that has a wide variety of incarnations like Ganon or Dracula from Castlevania
