How to - New Pet Snake Care (Petco)

Are you bringing home a new pet snake? You’ll want to get all your basic supplies ready first. The habitat will need a secure screen top so your snake doesn’t escape. Spread substrate inside the habitat across the bottom. You can use aspen shavings, coconut fiber or reptile bark depending on the species that you have. Snakes like a cozy hideaway and large water dishes to soak in. You will also need temperature gauges and a feeding tank. Learn more about how to prepare for your new pet in this quick video!

Anyone interested in snake keeping: Snakes do NOT need a separate feeding tank. This is very outdated advice. Switching them into this separate tank can cause baby snakes anxiety and they may not eat at all. A handled snake should very easily be able to distinguish your hand from food.

Additional tip, most snakes do much better on under the tank heat pads than bright heat lamps, and they are much cheaper. No matter what an Petco employee tells you, never use "heat rocks" to warm your snake. These are notoriously dangerous and can kill your pet.

Can a corn snake just chill wrapped around my arm or neck of they like to slither off?? Because I either want a corn snake or a ball python. But why I don't like ball pythons is because they have bigger heads than corn snakes and that means to me that their bites suck more.

Petco why should i put my snake in a feeding box haven't you watch SnakeBytesTv where Brain had one snake fed by feed box and the other one didn't and the one with no feeding box was much calmer than the feeding box snake and with that why would a person get a feeding box?

You know you messed up when you have a feeding tank like you handle the snake and then feed it so then it ends up associating handling with feeding time
