Mit Urkraft schieben sich der Morteratschgletscher und der Persgletscher von den Höhen des Piz Palü und des Piz Bernina (4'048,6 m ü. M.) in Richtung Pontresina. Bei den schroffen Zacken der Isla Persa (2'850 m ü. M.) vereinigen sich die Arme zur Gletscherzunge, die nach knapp 2 km endet. Vor 120 Jah-ren reichte der Morteratschgletscher noch 2 km weiter ins Tal.
Die Bovalhütte (rät. Chamanna da Boval, 2'495 m ü. M.) liegt im Morteratschtal, oberhalb des Morte-ratschgletschers. Im Westen sieht man den Piz Boval (3'353 m ü. M.) und den Piz Morteratsch (3'751 m ü. M.).
The Morteratsch Glacier and the Pers Glacier extend from the peaks of the Piz Palü and the Piz Bernina (4,048.6 m above sea level) towards Pontresina just like huge tongues. At the Isla Persa rock formation between the two ice streams, the two glacier arms merge to form a glacier tongue which ends after about 2 km. As recently as 120 years ago, the Morteratsch Glacier extended about 2 km further into the valley.
The Bovalhütte (Romansh: Chamanna da Boval) is a chalet in the Eastern Alps at an altitude of 2,495 m. It is situated in the Morteratschtal valley north of the Morteratsch Glacier. Piz Boval (3,353 m above sea level) and the Piz Morteratsch (3,751 m above sea level) rise west of the chalet.
