The problem is that Colombian Arepas lack flavor but I have ate my grandma's cooking and they are admittedly more flavorful than her food so I guess it makes sense with a grandma.

Don't ever confuse their cuisine with Mexicans. Mexico is flavor that often makes you cry from the heat. Colombia is a place where mild American style salsa will make them cry and salsa de rosa (mix of mayonnaise and ketchup) will feel like some amazing sauce from a 5* restaurant after a few months there.
