i'm aware this is a year late, but after watching this video twice, iv'e gotten and idea of what this means! (or what i think it means)
in the beginning, the mc seems to be struggling with a mask, like she is hiding who she really is to her new friends, but toward the end the mask breaks. Maybe because she has become older, or maybe because they have spend so much time together becoming friends.
