This historical epic dramatizes the Battle of Peking, a turning point of the Boxer Rebellion in China in 1900. When Dowager Empress Tzu-Hsi (Flora Robson) orders the Boxers, a group of Chinese secret societies, to massacre foreigners within China, a group of ambassadors, their families and staff hole up in a diplomatic compound. Major Matt Lewis of the United States Marine Corps (Charlton Heston) leads the defense while romancing Russian baroness Natalie Ivanoff (Ava Gardner).

Even though there is quite a numerous amount of historical inaccuracies in this film when compared to others, it's definitely a must-watch for any Chinese history enthusiast

They need to make a film about Dan Daley who personally killed 37 Boxers in hand to hand combat during the 55 day siege at Peking. He won 2 Medals of Honor and nearly earned a third. The most badass NCO in the Marine Corps history.

As an ethnic Chinese it is bizzare to see 1) 0:07 The Boxer's flag wrote both "北京" (Peking/Beijing in Han Chinese characters) and "京都" (Jingdu/Kyoto, which is actually more commonly associated with Kyoto in Japan), and 2) 1:57 The Boxer actors were multiracial with some that were clearly White/Caucasian, and I know one major Boxer role was played by Milton Reid whose parents were from Ireland and India respectively. Not trying to be picky, just saying these anachronistic things make this movie much funnier than intended from nowaday's perspective LOL

Due to the total lack of available M1895 Lee Navy rifles, the US Marines in the film are instead armed with Lee-Enfield Mk I rifles.

Also, I love the fusillade @2:17

Tbh, it would've been a bit better if you included the "Here they come!" in the first few seconds of this clip. Nevertheless, the action is nice to watch!

As a Chinese American, I expected 100% of these “boxers” to be played by non-Asians… I didn’t get a good look at them, but pretty sure they ain’t Chinese lol
