This is minor but the Netherlands started phasing out the gas field because the people living above it kept experiencing earthquakes and their houses started sinking. It wasn't really a climate consideration, as far as I know.

Germany: Let's shut down all nuclear power plants!
Italy: Nuclear power is illegal!

Also Germany and Italy: Hey France, do you have some excess power to sell?

Germany importing nuclear energy from France, all the while being staunch opponents of nuclear energy, is hilarious. I hope it at least turns some heads in the German government and makes them re-consider their position on nuclear power.

As a nuclear power supporter, I am perfectly fine with countries shutting down their nuclear power plant and programs if they feel the risk and investment is too much for them. However, what I am outraged about, particularly in regards to Germany, is that they shut down their nuclear power plants then having to build coal plants to supplement their supply. Why didn't they phase them out slowly while building up their renewable to a point that they can adequately supply the power they needed? Why did they decided to build coal plants? To me, it seems this was the result of 2 things. 1, the green extremists who are not in touch with reality, with a dangerous sense of self-righteousness. 2, the coal companies could have given Merkel a nudge for them to accelerate shutting down nuclear, thus they have no choice but to find replacement quick They decided to accelerate nuclear phase out, yet sticks to the schedule when it comes to coal. Isn't green movement beautiful? I am all for renewable. I worked on such project back in school. However, I am also a realist, and I can see that hastily made decision to please extremists are not sound.

In Greece they recently announced an increase of 50% to electric power price for everyone. So, if someone payed 300€ a month, it's now 450€ for the same power consumption.

The EU is paying for its own mistakes, and its targets for saving energy and reducing emissions are hopelessly out of step with reality.

Around 10-15y ago, before the crisis, on the first wave of renewable energy, spain was pushing really hard for the solar thing. There were subsidies for the production. It was so appealing that people were generating solar energy... during the night. With diesel gens.

European countries relying on coal and natural gas: *energy crisis due to fossil fuel shortages*
France relying on nuclear power: *continues to export 10 billions watts to its neighbors*

Gee golly gosh, I just can't puzzle out what the answer to this dilemma is...

The last point about more reliable green energy was truly funny. Suddenly nuclear energy is green after being vilified for two generations.

One should mention a very quiet weather in the North Europe leading to very weak wind production of electricity
talking of de-carbonation without using Nuclear power is just not serious

This finally shows that nuclear is the only viable and reliable option with the French being a net exporter of energy because of their investment in that type of infrastructure.

If every other country in the EU had nuclear power comparable to France, this wouldn't be a problem. Funny how not a single European media source will ever say that though.
