Heraldry can be confusing to say the least, so let's simplify it & make it fun - all whilst giving you lots of options for your characters, wall displays, and training equipment.

This video is just a quick run through on the basics of heraldry - talking about the categories and terms used - and is jam packed full of historical and modern examples of real world heraldry.

"Vert" is also called "sinople".
The "g" in "argent" is soft, the "t" is not pronounced, but the "s" in "lys" is.
Dexter means right and sinister means left. They refer to the wielder.

After watching this, I've realized one very key thing about why heraldry seems so confusing to a lot of people: _Everything is harder to understand in a foreign language._

At this point, though, heraldry has become a hobby for enthusiasts and it being too accessible borders on the undesirable. The language could be updated to get rid of archaic terms in favor of modern phrasing (sable=black, dexter=right, etc), but the feeling of satisfaction and achievement from learning the opaque jargon is part of the fun.
