TASCAM Model 2400 24-Channel Analog Recording Console Mixer REVIEW

Let's Review the Tascam Model 2400 - their new flagship Interface, Recorder, and Mixer. It has Analog Compressors, EQ, master buss compressor, effects and more.

This console is the top of the line which includes the Tascam Model 12, Tascam Model 16, and Tascam Model 24. The 2400 several things that the others do not, and for me the coolest upgrade is the master buss compressor and the fact that you can use the analog compressors and EQ on each individual channel while you are using it as an interface. You could not do this previously. Possible throw-and-go for your studio.

I owned a brand new 388 back in 1990 and am not sure that I've ever had more nostalgia and good memories for any other piece of gear than I've had for that machine. The Model 24 and 2400 are really testing my ability to resist - good work, Tascam engineers and designers! And thanks to you, Travis, for actually letting your viewers hear how it sounds. I'm not sure why reviewers often skip that detail.

I love the workflow of a DAWless system, I find I stay creative and I commit more to the sound going into the mixer. I might use the DAW for post processing and rendering. I have to say it looks waaaay more fun in what you did than sitting behind a computer for hours.

It'd be interesting to see you use this as a mixer for the reel-to-reel recorder. A digital-analog hybrid setup might be interesting and/or useful!

I had the model 12 but had to get rid of it because I like to clip preamps to get distortion and I couldn't do that without the compressor killing the signal on me!!! It was a wonderful board but that was a dealbreaker for me, not sure if they have the same signal chains but beware to those who like to get that filthy preamp distortion, really amazing equipment besides that. Great to see a new video Travis!

Dang, Could you do a video tracking to the internal SD card slot, then use the four stereo subgroups(8 outs) to print a mix down to the 38, then return the tape tracks back to your last 8 channels, & then do a “stem” print down using the built in master bus processing for the final mix?

Ya know I've been in the market for a mixer for like a year now and this one just checks all the damn boxes. Good eq, compressors, easy compatibility, inserts and auxes for outboard... Jesus.

Im glad I got mine 4 months ago and I get more songs done now. Its also really good feeling to get away from the computer.
