NS D9-44CW #9936 leads the last roadrailer (NS train 255 Detroit-Kansas City) through Dawson, IL. Tomorrow, 255 will be a mix of TOFCs and stacks and will eventually transition to all containers. The Triple Crown trailers and bogies the trailers ride upon have reached the end of their service life. The specialized equipment would cost more to overhaul or replace than running the train as a conventional intermodal. All eras come to an end.
