If he was revealed in Gen 6 or 7 I feel like he'd be the first Dark-Fairy

Sableye is the proof that we can still enjoy a Pokemon even if it's not the strongest in battle. But even then, thanks to Prankster, Sableye can be a deadly lead in battles. Plus, with the unique typing, this little boy will always be a favorite of mine.

Sableye appears to be in the same group as Decidueye or Hisuian Typhlosion. They have some kind of connection to spirits, have spooky abilities like extreme perception skills, but aren’t actually dead. Them being a ghost type is merely coincidental.

Sableye feels more like a gremlin than a ghost

Sableye is the definition of the prankster ability, I couldn’t think of a better recipient. The cheek that it has and the troll-style smile that it gives you while it switches your weakness policy for an eject button is unmatched.

I adore how much you have shined the light on Sableye's personality. I must admit, this video has definitely made me like Sableye more than I have ever have! The way it plays in the cards, how it is associated a lot with gems, and how fascinating overall the creation and story behind it is! I'm going to replay some old Pokemon games in anticipation for Scarlet and Violet, and when I play the games you can find Sableye, I think I'll add it to my team for sure this time! Such a funny little gremlin-like Pokemon!

Gabite doesn't really eat carbink, in reality Gabite just has the trait usually associated with dragons and it's that they horde treasure, so with Carbink being a floating gemstone, it makes sense why Gabite would grab them and carry them back to it's nest cause it loves shiny objects

I loved Sableye ever since i played through Emerald for the first time as a kid, i was stuck in Brawly's gym and couldn't progress further, then i found out i needed a ghost type and coincidentally there was a cave where i could catch one, so i caught a Sableye and i didn't level that little guy pretty much because i was "giving it a try, i guess" and literally sweeped Brawly's entire team. Ever since that point it became one of my favorite Pokemon. Later when i grew up and played through the new pokemon games i realized it's pretty weak but i didn't mind, i still loved it!

I genuinely really like Sableye. It has such a good design, and it's just a little gremlin. I love him. Lol.

I will always have a soft spot for Sableye. In Sapphire and Emerald, this guy is the PERFECT counter to Brawly, thanks to it's Ghost typing. And if you decide to deliver Steven's letter before the gym and get the Thief TM in Slateport, you can get a free early Sitrus Berry in Emerald.

japan LOVES hopskinville goblins for some reason! they get mentionned in a lot of stuff and inspire a lot of things there. like, more than you’d expect this kind of more underground cryptid to 😂

If there’s anything of personal belief on why Sableye is a ghost type is likely cuz of how some typings are general labels for different reasonings to fit. Much like how not all dark types are actually evil when they’re either just intimidating in looks or a trickster type, and like how psychic is usually the typing that covers for general space related Pokémon when on the surface you wouldn’t know if they truly should have psychic powers but the least seem “psychedelic.”

In the case of Sableye, it’s probably ghost in the sense that ghost may just generally cover anything deemed “spooky” in behaviors and such and not just by any random action that can be conducted cuz otherwise more Pokémon can be deemed spooky in that regard (e.g. gorebyss hunting and eating method is disturbing but that’s just their biology rather than it intentionally being scary)

for how they digest gems is likely because they are lacking of a true digestive system, this make sense for an actual undead, and the Ghost-types that are actual undeads often need to feed on something to remain on the living world, like negative emotions, souls or life energy. Sableye's diet is the most physical one and would allow them to get a more physical body, for this from all the Ghost-type Sableye is one of the most "physical" in appearence.

Sableye’s been one of my favorites, especially since their appearance in the Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of X games. In those games, they’re cowardly yet savage due to the future of darkness. They act as Dusknoir’s lackeys and as long as he’s with them, they’re courageous. As soon as he goes down, however, they panic and flee. They served as the inspiration for how I run Kobolds in role-playing games, actually.

sabeleye's gem journey was my absolute favourite of the official pokemon flash games, I'm still sad it disappeared with flash 😭
