This! Ah hah! I bought a vintage Fender five string banjo on vacation one time because I always wanted one and the price was right. It’s pretty good quality. I tried playing with the thumb and finger picks but I’m an old guitarist. This is gold to me and I’m taking it and running…to the fridge and grabbing a beer then that old banjo. Aces!

The rhythm is actually similar to a bum ditty like in two finger thumb lead or claw hammer. I prefer those styles, but that is definitely an interesting way to play the banjo. Also, from what I understand, hammer-ons and pull-offs were a term coined by Pete Seeger who was evangel player.

The plastic pick gives it a nicer tone.
