We always take this Shakespearean quote to mean that they were fated to be together.

That is not what it means!

I always understood this to mean they are in love, but it isn't "in the stars" for them to be together. I don't think the term inherently means they're gonna die

I have been collecting songs with Star-Crossed in the title (or lyrics enough, to add to the title!) and so many are from not understanding what the quote/phrase means! ...Star-Crossed... the perfect lovers, or destined to be together... two of the main uses that are wrong! ...So far we got about 230 Star-Crossed songs.
Tell ya the truth, I think the story of Romeo & Juliet is rather silly! They could of just run off together. And why send a message saying what you're going to do! ...as in fake your death! And obviously not know if the other got it, or not....
Anyway! I wrote a story about more modern Star-Crossed lovers... and then rewrote a very tiny version to go with this concept album type thing I made... However! This is a true story.
