My service dog does the exact same thing! Except he includes grumbles to wake me up.

My boy will paw me right on the face when I stop petting him sometimes, so at least he doesn't slap you right in the face 🤣

When my cat was a tiny kitten, he didn't quite understand what humans were and how to get our attention, so he used to slap my face several time with his paw to wake me up 😂😂 It happened just a couple times but I'll remember it forever. So precious!

My dog does this all the time. He randomly paws me on the leg to get my attention. He also loves to hold hands. He will lift his paw, asking a human to hold it and then after a while he will switch to the other paw. No one has taught him this but his mum does it too as well as some of his siblings. It’s adorable!

He's adorable. I like the way he gently paws at your arm. Dogs are intelligent beyond human understanding. He knows that he has to be aggressive not only to awaken you but to let you know that he's not taking any excuses 😂😂😂❤❤
