I am not cynical, simply practical.
1. It is only 2 weeks to freezing daily temperatures.
UA/Russia like boxers in the ring knowing the bell will sound ending the round.
2. It is logical that both sides tried and do try to exploit their respective advantages.
3. Today's losses explained.
Russia has no interest in feeding meat wave troops over the winter. Last year's planned winter offensive using an army raised and trained in Russia was sent off the rails in September 2023. For the winter of 2024, most of the regular troops available in February 2022 are gone, the trainers are gone, the special forces are gone. Although technologically more sophisticated troopers who provide support to the meat wave guys have been protected, they have been hurt.

So, the Russians will use up the meat wave guys, the old men, and the wounded before having to deal with them this winter.

Using tanks/artillery in an offensive subjects them to heavy losses. Ditto to multiple rocket launcher systems. So, if you aren't getting results despite a hail Mary offense, you reduce your exposure. This is why the losses of Russian artillery went up sharply and why the losses will go down. Take multiple rocket launching systems. Russia has remaining about 23% of the inventory of February 2022. It can produce only about 32 brand new units a year. The rest of the units being put into service are repaired units. UA estimates 1000 units still in the field.

Why the poor loss ratio of equipment today? The UA is judiciously using up mobile equipment in maneuver warfare before the rainy season. The goal is to secure the potential river obstacle in the Kursk region. If successful, the area of control is so expanded that the potential for a new Russian incursion in the north is totally blocked.

Prof, Dagestan and Ingushetia are two Russian republics neighbouring Ichkeria (endonym for Chechnya). All three republics are Muslim, Turkic and were conquered about 150 years ago. Very few Russians there.

The thing that gets me is that you don't need a handbook on the international rules of war to know that killing pows is wrong you just need to be human with an intact conscience. The fact that Russia deliberately ignore that should galvanise about how they need to be defeated

Been half a century or so since I worked in our family gas station but, that mushroom cloud didn’t come from a dropped cigarette at the gas pumps.
Such goofiness happens but, it’s a flash fire, not a KABOOM!!!
More likely a grenade or other explosive dropped into a holding tank would be my guess.
The gas stored there will not burn unless the tank is open to the atmosphere.
Even during fuel deliveries, the tanks are tightly sealed by gaskets on the delivery hose. Of course, this is NOT a first world country but the rarity of such an event, leads me to suspect sabotage.
