I Don't Care To Dance

I think this is one of the best songs I've written so far. It's written from the perspective of a fellow who is hoping for love, but has the wariness that comes from having hoped for love in the past and having those hopes dashed. Perhaps enough times that he has started believing it just might not be possible for him. And then the blooming of something that feels different. The gift of someone who seems to truly accept him. The song also nods towards the broken expectations and models that are given to men in how they should pursue love, the confidence they should project, the idea that they are supposed to be in control or have power over their partner. Models and expectations that so often turn toxic.
-Favorite Line, “We’re sweating and we’re laughing and the band is only playing songs we know”

I'll play this for my wife of 20 years marriage. She's the one who helped me lift my chin.

O man, this is what music making is all about. A man and his guitar coming up with such a beautiful song. This will be way up there when I'm voting this year for the Dutch Top 2000 at the end of this year.

Dear Jonathan Edward, this is the most beautiful song I've heard for decades.
And being over 60, I've heard a few..
Dedicated this song to my new love Monique, after a long period of mourning and seeking she came into my life. And you created the anthem. In The Netherlands, on Radio2, you are epic. National radio, best listened station here.
And I think it won't take that long to see you here, in this little wonderfull country. And when you do, let me know.
Me and Monique will be happy to see you.

This one of the most beautiful songs I ever heard. The lyrics tells a story that resembles so much with my husband and I. I had tears running down my face the first day I heard it. I still cry sometimes. Just stunning voice and lyrics.

it's rare to find a song that whispers to you from your stereoset but makes a big impression. this song has it all. a romantic sense of hopelessness that turns into being glad to be yourself with the one you love. after reading the lyrics i had tears in my eyes. while listening i see a bar with 2 men on the dance floor. 2 men out on the road. leaving things behind, searching for the things they already know. one of them has his eyes on the floor. the other one stands straight. the other people in the bar have all their eyes on the 2. asking questions. "are they really gonna do it here? do they dare to take the floor? to dance?
and with every move one of them is lead by the other, he realises how much he loves who he can become. and who he has been, but never could have been.
or...2 best man at a wedding. after the first dance of the married couple they take the dance floor. every member of the family stares at them. but while they are floating in each other arms all they see is love. love for each other. as long as the band keeps playing there's no judgement, no outside world. now he understands his feelings and it sounds like every song is familiar.
thank you for this song. but now i'm afraid to listen more of your songs.

One of those rare occasions that a song captures you straight away. Fragile and moving...

Absolutely wonderful - it's been years since I heard such a fabulous song. Favorite lines "And suddenly it’s gone
The worry that has weighed upon my heart
The fear that I’m undeserving of the dance that I’ve been yearning to take part in"
