Honestly, I do like how Marvel Rivals just gets around this headache by just focusing on an Alternate version of Psylocke instead.

NetEase has the opportunity to do the funniest thing and introduce Betsy Braddock as Captain Britain and have her do a whole double-take seeing Psylocke, like “oh no, not this again” and Psylocke having no idea what she’s talking about

Wow, I finally understand why Psylocke in Marvel Rivals has a voice line where she says "Hmm. It appears some timelines feature a very... different version of me" and the VA really emphasizes 'very different' and it made me so curious as to what that could possibly mean. Now I know.

I mean- part of the reason they kept Betsy Asian for so long was because Jim Lee did a knockout job with her new look at made her instantly iconic, and it was too popular of a look to just throw out.

There's also the fact that even in the 90's, "White Woman gets turned Asian" was a questionable storyline, so the "Bodyswap" storyline was created to reconcile that.

The original version of Betsy's ninjafication with Mojo giving her cosmetic surgery is actually a pretty scary body horror monkey paw story. She spent most of the 80s mad that she couldn't fight on the front lines with her fellow X-Men, well Mojo and Matsuo gave her that ability, and she lost her identity and body in the process.

Iirc chris claremont first kept the raceswap because he liked how Jim Lee drew her like that and intended to change her back once a new artist came on board, but then Jim Lee outlasted Claremont

So, at first I was confused about Danny Rand not being the Iron Fist we got for Marvel Rivals. Then, I found it interesting that they used the 2099 version of both Cap and Black Widow, and now I just found out Psylocke is also from an AU. It goes to show how nerds the writers of that game are and I love it. They absolutely know what they're working with

Knowing that it was another instance of writers being swapped makes so much more sense. It gives me similar vibes to Spider-Man comics that got confusing due to writers leaving like Hobgoblin’s identity or the Clone Saga.

When I was little around 8, my older teen cousin and I used to play X-Men legends and when Psylocke was introduced and explained her backstory to Magma, my cousin felt really bad for her and I barely had a clue what she was talking about because it was so confusing to me.
