I acted as a poll clerk for a 20 yr period and not once did I ever ask a name and find someone had fraudulently already voted in that name. There is only one reason for this law change and we all really know why don't we..

This voter id policy is a sad and desperate tactic from a failing tory government who have run out of ideas.

The fact that an OAP Travel Card is acceptable, but a Student Travel Card are not, even though they are both photo ids issued through the same process tells us exactly why the Conservatives are doing this.

Tories saw how successful voter ID has been in keeping the Republicans competitive in national and state wide elections, and thought "we need some of that"

I've been a Presiding Officer for 40 years and never once suspected anyone of voter fraud.

It's always a red flag when someone responds to a challenge of veracity with 'outrageous' in such and exaggerated manner.

If voter fraud were as widespread as he claims, then why has there been almost no prosecutions at all?

I was too young at 30 years to report a crime is just wild

My mum's elderly, she's given up her driving licence and hasn't renewed her passport. The only way she can vote is by post now. They are deliberately trying to disenfranchise voters and it's disgusting

What's happening here is that the Tories are taking accusations Republicans made here in the States and are recycling their nonsense.

My experience as an American: When they suggest significant voter fraud exists, and then can't produce evidence that it does exist, weirdly it just makes them more scared of it. Because how menacing must something be if it can't be seen (like the shark in most of Jaws)? Their fear multiplies because they can't prove it. So then they want to enact increasingly stricter fear-based laws that wind up making it harder and harder for normal people just to participate in what should be the most basic of processes in a free society.

In my opinion the reason the Tories have introduced the need to show Id when voting is that they believe it will suppress the Labour vote, full stop. If voter fraud was truly a problem then you would have far stricture rules for postal voting.

I'm in my thirties, and I'm very happy to know that I'm still too young to be expected to do my duty as a member of a democratic society.
Feeling young again, thank you mr Caller.

I witnessed it but was young that’s why I didn’t confront it
James: how old were you then
Caller: I was 30 😂

They did this in some American states, where poorer people, who often lack forms of identity, like driver licences or passports; these requirements are implemented to disenfranchise poor folks!

He saw it happening but in his 30's never reported it !! What stopped him. I'm with you on this one James..

The cases are minuscule. It just looms large in their own paranoid thinking. Reading the Daily Fail and believing it doesn’t help either.

it's to stop the 'underdeserving poor' from voting, nothing more, nothing less.
who's less likely to own a passport, drivers license or other official ID, the very poor or the very rich?
