Why does Kriegman calvary ride flesh eating mutant horses you may ask? Because the Tech-Priest enlisted by Colonel Jurten during the Krieg civil to craft lasguns and clones for the loyalist faction created the horses as a bonus side project because the dude really liked horses.

Quick lore tidbit for those wondering why the hell Kreig horses have toes:

Basically the was a civil war between loyalist and those who wanted to be removed form the wider imperium and after colonel Jurten nuked the whole of Kreig from a lush green wonderland into a nuclear hellscape they needed to keep there population numbers up, so he got the techpriest he enlisted to use vita-wombs (basically artificial wombs to increase births) but only gave the order to do so as he lay on his deathbed due to how mortally sketchy it was (you know it was sketchy when even he was having second thoughts on it, considering he nuked the whole planet into a permanent nuclear winter).

In addition to this the techpreist genetically modified the horses they had to better withstand the hostile surface of Kreig, since vehicles where in short supply, plus it was way easier to simply grow more GMO horses than make more tanks. These horses where larger, ate meat, resistant to injury and radication, could take significant trauma and keep going and had clawed toes to better navigate and climb difficult terrain whether that be hills, mud, kragmire, or piles of corpses

I… didn’t realize until just now the genetic monstrosity that is the krieger equine industry. I knew they were mutated and augmented but to take their hooves so they may not know the joy of horse shoes… the very thing that makes them a horse!
