There are big changes coming to how we practice observability. In this new series, we're going to cover the big ideas behind the creation of the OpenTelemetry project, and dive deep into how and why this new approach is better suited for operating modern production systems.

In part two, we set aside the traditional "three pillars" approach to observability, and design a new telemetry data structure from scratch which better suits our needs. Along the way, we'll learn about OTLP, OpenTelemetry's new data protocol.

Stay in touch! I keep a chill, low-intensity twitter feed going, focused on insightful, high-quality takes on observability. Reach me there if you have any questions:

Another excellent video in the series. OTLP is explained really well and grabbed a screenshot of the structure toward the end to share with my Observability team 🙂 These videos greatly help me promote OTel and Observability in my company. Thank you!

Do you happen to have the slides available? Specifically the slide showing the data structure at the end of the presentation?
