Learn all about our Global winds. These include the Polar Easterlies, the Westerlies, and the trade winds.
Global winds are created from the unequal heating of the Earth and the Coriolis effect.
At some locations on Earth, there are locations of little wind. At the equator, you will find the Doldrums and at 30 degrees north and south you will find the Horse latitudes.

Thank you for stopping by. The graphic I used can be confusing. North America is drawn such that it seems the trade winds blow across North America. The trade winds do blow from 0 to 30 degrees north and south as indicated on my map. Sorry for any confusion.

kinda hate it how these informations are simplified all in different ways, and you end up with having to read and watch like 10 different sources to get the bigger and more detailed picture. But simplified explanations like this do indeed help, just wish that the books weren't such a mess of different levels of detail all vomited into the same cauldron without being consistent

Well, I pulled this up to share with students. The trade winds do not go across North America. The prevailing westerlies do not begin in the north part of USA. i had to tell them to unsee what they saw.

Everybody knows that winds are caused by butterflies flapping their wings on the other side of the world.😜

Why Polar easterlies are more regular in the southern hemisphere in comparison to the northern hemisphere?

The flow of these winds(Polar easterlies) is altered by the Earth"s rotation and deflected towards the east.why?

The map is incorrect. The continents are not placed correctly in relation to lines of latitude. As a result, the map shows the incorrect location of the prevailing winds. For example, the NE Trade winds do not blow across North America as shown (should be the Westerlies).
