Places we visited:
🇬🇷Mytilene port-Here you will find lots of cafes/bars/restaurants. There are lots of accommodation options here as well. The airport of Lesvos is about a 15 minute drive from here. With a 5 minute walk from the port you’re in the center of Mytilene filled with restaurants/cafes/bars/supermarkets/stores/museums/anything else you may need!
🇬🇷Tsamakia beach is an organized beach located in the heart of Mytilene (~10 minute walk from the port). There is a beach bar that serves coffee, drinks & food. A 5 minute walk from this beach will take you to the famous Statue of Liberty created by the Greek sculptor Gregorious Zevgolis based on a design by painter Georgios Jakobides. It was cast in Germany in 1922 & was dedicated to Lesvos in 1930. Fun fact: Jakobides had travelled to New York for work & got inspiration for his piece of art from the Statue of Liberty in New York. He promised himself once he would return to Lesvos that he would built a Statue of Liberty for his home city.
🇬🇷Agios Ermogenis is a relatively small beach with lots of pine trees and a fish restaurant. (~20 minute drive from the port)
🇬🇷Taxiarchis Church in Mantamados is dedicated to Archangel Michael & is located in the northern part of the island. There you will see the icon of Taxiarchis which was created with ground & blood of monks who were killed by pirates during the Turkish Ottoman occupation in the year of 1462. (~40 minutes drive from the port)
🇬🇷The Castle of Mytilene is built around a hill & is one of the largest castles of Eastern Mediterranean. (~13 minute walk from the port)
🇬🇷Plomari is located on the southern coast of the island & is the ouzo capital of Greece! Ouzo is a very popular anise flavored liquor in Greece produced from grape must. Here you can find numerous restaurants/taverns that will serve you fresh seafood accompanied with their local ouzo. Agios Isidoros is a beach in this area known for its crystal waters. A must visit if you’re in Plomari! (~54 minute drive from the port)
