I knew this car, very well !!! Because it was going to be mine !!! In the 90s I worked as the Asst. Parts Manager in a Dodge Dealership in San Fernando, CA... It was called, Murphy/Shelby Dodge !!! Where this car was for 6 or 7 years that I worked there !!! We had the Car in exhibition in the Showroom Floor !!! After 3 years of me working there, the Dealership General Manager wanted Cars that could be sold in the Showroom Floor !!! So we moved the Car to the Mechanical side of the Shop !!! It was funny that the Mechanics that were asked to get the Car running were unsuccessful in doing so !!! I am a Mopar Muscle Car Head and have never liked or even looked at the Ford Product !!! Except for the 1970 to 1974 Ford Pantera Detomasos !!! They have always have had a special spot in my heart !!! Well I have had my eye on this Car for 3 years !!! And went and checked it out while it was on a hoist and saw the whole underside of this Car !!! I also noticed that the Mechanic that was working on this Car ordered Motorcraft Sparkplugs for a 351 Cleveland Engine !!! And then I spotted the Sparkplugs that came out of this Car, and they happened to be Champion RN9YCs ??? I said to myself a Mopar Plug in a Pantera ??? It can't be ??? I have those plugs in stock in my Parts Department !!! So, I grabbed a set of 8 plugs !!! I measured the gap on the plugs that came out of the Car and I believe it was .28 to .30 if I'm not mistaken !!! I regapped the new plugs that were .34 or .36, to the gap that was on the plugs that came out of the Car !!! At the same time I also got a flashlight and checked the engine out, till I found the engine casting number and The Mighty Chrysler Pentastar !!! It was I needed to see !!! I dropped the Car down on the hoist put the Mopar plugs in the engine !!! I tried turning the engine over that happened to be on a battery charger charging the battery !!! Unsuccessfully, like the luck that the Mechanic that working on it, had !!! I went in the Parts Department again and grabbed a brand new Dodge Diesel Truck Battery !!! And went back to the Car and installed the Battery !!! I sat in the Car and turned the ignition !!! And Viola !!! Bam, it fired up !!! It sound like a Pissed off Devil !!! I was shaking in joy and pride, that I was the one that figured out the formula to fire this Car up and had it running !!! I drove it to another lot where we kept some odd and end cars and a Boston Whaler that belong to Bill Murphy (the other Co-Owner of the Dealership) !!! I stashed the Car !!! The next day, I ordered a Top of the Line Car Cover for it and it went to sleep for another 2 to 3 years !!! Till I propersitioned Pops( that is what I used to call Carroll Shelby) !!! And took him to the lot and show him the Car !!! And told him that I ran the VIN Number with the DMV and the Car came out to registered to him and Peterson Museum !!! He kinda recalled but, with so many Cars in his memory !!! The Car didn't really mean much to him !!! That is when him and I made a Deal on the Car, and that I was going to buy it for $15, 000.00 dollars, which in 3 or 4 days the Business Office Manager was to take out $500.00 out of my paycheck as the first payment for the Car !!! I was in 7th Heaven !!! Pops, instructed me to call a man named JL at Shelby Enterprises in Gardena and only speak to him !!! It turned out that JL, was Carroll Shelby's right hand man and was the man that oversees everything in the Gardena Shelby Facility !!! The following day, I called JL, and asked him to please locate the paperwork and title of the White Pantera ??? He immediately replied, NO !!! And questioned if I was crazy ??? I answered no sir, and told him that Pops and I made a Deal and that I was buying the Car !!! Mind you, I have had that Car stashed under a Car Cover for 3+ years and every so often, I would go sit in it and fire it up !!! I would literally get my adrenaline fix for the day and would go back to work !!! For 3+ years, I did that !!! I even had the thought of just driving or having the Car towed to my house, because nobody knew anything about this Car !!! But, I am not a thief and I knew if I ever had a chance of buying this Car ??? That, I would be blowing it if I did that !!! So, I never did that !!! So, when I made the phone call to JL, I kinda blew it anyway !!! Because the very next day !!! There was a Car Transporter Driver that came straight to my Parts Department with instructions to get me and to have me take him to the Car !!! That day my heart sank and I as I watched my Dream Chrysler Powered Pantera get loaded in the Simi-Truck Car Transporter and drive away !!! I lost a part of my heart !!! My eyes actually watered and I said to myself !!! It probably was not meant to be !!! And now that I saw this video !!! I am haunted again by this Car !!! And again my eyes are watering !!! Damn it !!! This Car Was Mine !!! Damn It !!!

The Daytona Coupe was my absolute favorite. Planning to buy a factory five replica very soon. He did make some bone-dogs in the 80's, but many of his brain-children were the most iconic sports cars of the 20th century.

I saw that car at Shelby, in Gardena-CA, when I was starting to work on The Series 1 project...and it had the Twin Turbo motor in it...and it sounded soooo sweet. And they were getting the place ready for 75th Birthday also. Plus I have met and talked to the man on several occasions.

Back in the early 90s, when Shelby was starting to build the continuation Cobras with inmates to fund the Series 1 project I got to take a tour of the shop at the skunkworks by the Rio. I saw this Pantera over in the corner. It had the engine in it. It was a 351C with twin turbos and a fabricated blow through air box. couldn't see what it had for carburation. I was told it was a test mule for another project and to please not take any pictures of it.

As a mechanic at Pete Shaver Lincoln Mercury in Hammond, IN. in the early 70's I was there when Pete flew to NY to bring back one of the first DeTomaso Panteras . Had a 351 Ford Cleveland engine with a 5 speed manual trans . So sweet .

Missed the whole 80’s collaboration with Chrysler. The GLH, GLHS, Shelby Charger, and so on. Not cool V8’s, but still Shelby cars.

I remember reading about this car and the twin turbo 360 cubic inch NASCAR V8 Mopar V8 that is and I always wondered what happened to the car. If I dig around I can probably find the magazine article. It was in Hot rod magazine. I do remember that super cool!

I saw one of the original pantera's at a shelby auction in Newport Beach, California that was to benefit the shelby heart foundation
I walked past it thinking it was a Lamborghini but went back to read the window info

It was one of 12 panteras given to shelby to homogalize for Ford not Chrysler and yes it had those same stress cracks on the rear spoiler but still had the original Ford motor with twin turbos however with the Vietnam war going on it was decided that the target market of younger males was dealing with the draft and war protests so the project was cancelled

Along with the one test car there were 11 untitled and unregistered new De Temoso panteras parked right next to it with many other test bed autos

Auction was in 1998 called it shelby's garage sale
