Does this dude not know that Spanish people are European?

I respect her for saying that. Gender swapping is the laziest way to try and make a new movie imo.
Create cool new characters instead of remaking classic ones

Haters gonna hate. How have people calling Ms. Ortega a hypocrite for playing Wednesday completely missed the Father's name... Gomez?! Anecdotally, I've NEVER heard any non-latino named Gomez.

Honestly, I'm siding with Jenna. I'd rather see a female character have good writing going for her than see a male replacing the character.
A good example of this is literally the hunger games movies starring Jennifer Lawrence. She doesn't look book accurate, but the movies are straight up incredible.

She’s right though, there are plenty of movies with strong female leads that are iconic, like Sarah Connor. Don’t need hand me downs

How she a hypocrite? She's talking about gender swapping, not race swapping or ethnicity

I hate when people accuse light skinned Hispanic characters of being “white washed”, like light skinned Hispanics don’t exist.

Her saying, Men's hand me downs is the perfect way of saying it's disrespectful towards women.

Part of what made Edward Scissorhands so special was the fact he represents male victims of sexual assault and harassment and was blamed for the incident despite Joyce coming onto Edward.

Calling her a hypocrite is just stupid.

Gender swapping and race swapping are 2 separate arguments.

In terms of race casting with a preexisting character, I don’t care unless you don’t look accurate. That half Japanese guy who played Superman back in the 90s looked like Superman so there was no problem with me there. Latina Jenna Ortega looks like Wednesday. Rachel does not look Snow White.

The Adam’s Family was always Hispanic. They were Spanish origin. And Jenna Ortega is white her ethnicity is Latina. There’s nothing wrong with her playing Wednesday from Adam’s Family. She fits the roll perfectly.

Being given men's handmedowns is actually a great way to describe this

I think Hollywood needs to stay away from race swapping and gender swapping characters. If you want a diverse character make a new story that is made for this new character, don't just change a pre-existing character. People will still watch and would actually be glad to see new stories and new characters be made provided the writing and story is good.

I agree, and that’s exactly what gender swap and race swaps movies feel like, hand me downs. And a shield for the writers so they can claim sexism or racism if people don’t like the movie

European Spanish IS white, like Italian or Greek. It's all technically white, but those of Hispanic descent ARE part Spanish and I don't care when the part works. Jenna was cast as Wednesday not because she is a Latina, but because she fit the character perfectly. Hollywood needs to stop the bullshit.

Anyone calling her a hypocrite obviously doesn’t know the difference between gender swapping roles and roles that can be played by a different ethnicity than the original character.

People saying that Adam's family is primarily modern white American are not paying attention. There are subtle and some not-so-subtle nods to Latino culture throughout Adam's family world.

You can’t compare gender swapping with race swapping, it’s two totally different things. I applaud her for sticking to what she believes in.

I love how she was talking about gender and they went to race
