David Coulthard - make opportunities happen

David Coulthard has won 13 Grands Prix in his 15 seasons in Formula One. His double wins of classic driver races in Monaco and Silverstone as well as Spa stand out as his single greatest achievements during his long career at the top of motor racing.

From 2005 he activly helped to build Red Bull into the Constructors and Drivers World Championship winning team of the 2010, 2011 and 2012 season.

I sat down with David to talk about his early days in racing, his path to Formula One, accepting team orders and how he played his part in building Red Bull.

David's honesty and his ability to reflect on his career provide a great insight into the human behind the racing driver.

He was always one of my favorites because of his attitude. He was never over the top arrogant and he wasn't one of those drivers that immediately made bad things someone else's fault. Great interview. I'd love to sit down for a pint with him.

In my mind anyone who even makes it to F1 and wins races is a success. So many are quick to criticise DC but here is an honest man, an honorable man and a hard worker. It's fair to say if there were more people like David Coulthard the world would be a much better place.

Wow...what a gem of an interview. I have been watching F1 since '84 and he is one of my favourite F1 people. I know DC not at all personally. But he seems like a very decent fellow...and I will take that over 'cut throat, world champion' any day. Talent is fleeting, honour is timeless.

An inspiration! As an unemployed graduate sending countless job applications, I grabbed the phone and started talking to and eventually meeting employers. Now I'm employed. You really have to get out there sell yourself.

Coulthard is such a cool guy. Him and Mika on McLaren are still my favorite team of all time. I don't know why he was given so much flack about Australia 98'. Like he said, the team as a whole was always more important to him and he respected the guys he worked with. I have a lot of respect for a guy like that. I would love to meet the guy, he's really cool and well spoken, not to mention he was a great driver as well. If he were in a different era without the competition he had such as Mika, as well as Schumacher, he would have won a championship for sure.

One of the most genuine, humble drivers in F1 I've come across. A real gentlemen of the sport.

he might say he was "just good", but there is no more REAL driver, that David Coulthard. a true epitome of what a legend is, and always will be.

Uncle David.
One of my all-time favourites.
It's a pretty safe bet, that if it weren't for him, Sebastian would not have won as many races, and possibly as many championships as he did.
David had a huge hand in the development of that winning Red Bull, which included helping bringing Adrian Newey into the team.
In the last decade or so, he's one of the few F1 drivers I wouldn't mind having a drink or two with.
Kimi would be another, but I doubt I could keep up with him.

By far the most sympathetic character in the F1 industry that's known to public.
Incomparable to Martin Brundle.
DC has a lot of humour and is, in my opinion still at the BBC, severely underrated.
