No its not a living wage in cali. I make 10$ an hour as a student and I can hardly afford to live with my parents. I mean it might help but won't be enough for me to live on my own and get started.

Good job California, people must have a living wage.

One step in the right direction, and one step closer to a *Universal Basic Income* that can save us as more and more jobs are replaced by automation. Once UBI comes, minimum wage will be irrelevant.

Hell fucking yeah. I say this as a Californian with a household income of over $100, 000. Minimum wage is far too low.

Why can't we just have a national basic income?

I live in cheap-ass Arkansas and $15 would barely be a solid living wage. So it would be more than $15 in most of the USA.

Kyle I started listening to you a few years ago I don't think you even had 100k subscribers. Now you're almost at 300k, great work!! Keep it up.

what would living wages be if corperate employers were required to supply housing and food for their employees?

By 2022 for big business are you kidding me? That is not progress. If you adjusted for inflation by 2012 we were supposed to have at least a $21 dollar minimum wage. People act like that's asking too much but that's literally just inflating the wages properly since about the 80s. By 2022 a $15 minimum wage will seem like what it already is in CA now. Ugh. I hate the fact that so called liberals are being applauded for things like this. It's not enough! In California it's one of the most difficult places to live because if you don't have a degree you have to work at least two jobs and you'll probably still be in poverty. My mother is a teacher in Stockton, CA living in poverty. My father is a construction foreman living in poverty. They're getting a divorce and dad can't find anywhere to live because it's too expensive. This is why I moved to Montana. Also screw Governor Brown he doesn't give a flying f about Stockton or Northern CA or anywhere but LA really. You're the governor of California not LA!

I think your absolutely right about how to set the minimum wage, and as you said its a step in the right direction and I'm sure will allow for fine tuning.

what do you say to the unemployed who don't get a job as a result? "Tough luck, my big ideas win!"

Of course, anyone not _worth_ $15 per hour is out of a job.

$15 minimum wage is ridiculous. Around $10 is far more reasonable.

Productivity is _mostly_ technological advances, but why _shouldn't_ that be reflected in the average workers' wage? The advances were made by scientists and engineers, but it's the ultra-rich who have mostly benefited. The only actual short/medium-term solution to this accelerating imbalance is a Universal Basic Income.

Why even have a minimum wage and just let everyone earn what they're willing to accept? If you wan to to work for a Canadian half-cent a day, that should be your option.

The problem with being specific beyond the state level is whether or not people would move somewhere where the pay is higher more often than if it was defined at the state level.

One more reason California is the best state in the US.
