What plane is the basis for the Airbus Beluga?
It is definitely a very unique-looking plane, transporting wings and parts of the fuselage from one Airbus factory to another!
When Airbus came up with the idea of building a transport plane, they didn't design a whole new aircraft but rather converted an A300-600 and placed the huge upper deck on top of it.
The newest Beluga XL is now a conversion of the Airbus A330.
Now you know. Like and follow for more aviation facts every day.

The eyes and mouth they put on the Beluga XL are a great design decision.

Beluga was created to transport parts of of the airbus planes but, how they made Beluga in the first place.... it is an existential question😄

At the local Flying Club, we got a 747 glider. Great for teaching hundreds of people how to center a thermal cloud. Only problem is, burning an entire forest, or you get a five minutes flight.

We see the Beluga frequently as it flies over Merseyside .Last week I got a really good view of it as I was on the Wirral & not far from Broughton, Chester, where the Airbus wings are made.

The original was made by Transmeridian Air Cargo, an operator of CL44 freighters at Stansted in the late 1960’s.

It was called the Guppy which although much smaller was almost exactly the same shape.

I know I was there 😉.

The Airbus a300 is the base plane for the regular.
For the Beluga XL is the A330

Is that why in flightradar24 it says A300

That’s why the beluga has a double landing gear (BUTTER)

however, this is only for the original Beluga, and the BelugaXL is based on a a330-700 (the belugaxl is also known as a330-700l)

I always thought it was based on the A380 since it’s so big, but then I realized the beluga only has 2 engines and not 4

as someone who lives near a Airbus factory, I love the new XLs and how they look✌️and their extended capabilities💪
I’d really wish to one step inside the upper deck and maybe even get to fly with them - but unfortunately that’s a really rare thing to achieve xD
