The Google Pixel Fold combined two of my favorite things: folding phones, Google's take on Android, and that Pixel-quality camera, but after almost a year, is the Pixel Fold still the folding phone to beat them all? Let's find out!

I got my fold a month ago and it is great. Loving the big screen

I bought mine a week ago, because the pixel fold 2 will be too expensive for me. I'm very happy with the pixel fold, it has a nice inner screen and a great camera. Android 15 beta 3 is also very stable and has some cool new features.

Never again. My sons Pixel Fold camera screen is black. Hasn't been able to take photos for months. No fix. Google it, it's ridiculous.

Just got mine for a nice bargain...too hard to sleep on ($300) with no contract. Really enjoying it!

Been almost a year. Been back and forth between the pixel fold and the one plus open. Does the pixel fold have its problems? Yes. Are the problems outweighed by what the pixel fold can do very very well? Yes.

Ive had my Pixel Fold for 8 months and love it. It had a little wrinkle on the screen at the fold for a few days. I was worried it would turn into a tear. A few days later it was gone, like it healed itself 😅

I got mine as a test device for work and have mained since it came out. If I had purchased this for the full price, I would have returned it immediately. Once the wow factor went out, it has some issues that irk me to no end. Once work gives me another phone, I'm switching and never going back. While it does have some nice features for certain people, for me, I'm glad I didn't spend a dime. If it was like 900 or something, its packing quite a bunch of features for many. Here are some breakdowns from me.

My biggest issues:
The speaker is quite quiet on lower settings so either you need to have it on max to hear it or you might literally miss phone calls. Which would be fine but....
The vibration motor is extremely weak so you better have the volume up. I never missed phone calls before this phone. This one, I have missed a lot.
The build quality while good, is still weak. Coworker broke his because a key got between when he closed it and it broke the internal screen. Supposedly not a hard shut either. I babied mine.
The crease in the fold makes anything but multi-tasking two apps vertically, just not look good. I find the folding from android best when you are using the fold to show something on one part of the screen and something below, similar to Youtube. Video above, controls below. Or using split apps.
Battery life is just ok. Heavy use and you will need a recharge late in the day.
The phone needs a case else it is a slip and slide machine. Making it a massive brick of a phone. The phone has left a stretch area in my jeans because its so massive.
The bluetooth for the first few months wouldn't connect to my car. Fixed now though from recent updates
Many apps will get confused as to how they should be displaying on this screen. I've had apps act like I'm in folding mode when I'm just on the front screen. The amount of apps that utilize the screen space and folding style is super rare and even many google apps, just treat it like a small tablet.
The front screen is quiet dim during the day but overall just ok.
Like you Jon, I found myself forgetting to open the folding screen often.
Its a chonky phone. Hitting your face hurts.

The benefits:
Stupidly nice selfie camera mode
Multi-tasking and expanding the screen for close looks is great.
Youtube and media controls are super nice.
The biometrics is quick and in a better spot than the screen ones.
Its a pixel so pictures are great.
The latest version of Android has made the phone so much better than previous ones so get on the beta asap or wait till August/September when it comes out.

No issues with LTE, Call quality, texting and more. Its does most things just well.
I did like using the front screen phone height. I kind of want them to make a pixel chubby the same size but without the fold. It is great for the general usage and the thickness/weight makes it heavy. Similar to how you said the front screen is just great.

I think if you were getting this phone for half or lower its og price, its a good option. But I'm looking forward to a normal pixel soon from my work.

Fold owner since launch day (previous fold owner of the galaxy fold 3 and 4)

Have not had a single freaking issue with it, hardware and software have both been glitchless. And im not one who is usually lucky with tech in general.

No complaints - even got it for $800 with a promo going on at the time of launch

That said, i'm ready for a lighter and thinner Fold 2 OR i may swap back to the galaxy fold 6 at launch

That said, i LOVE the pixel environment// may be hard to switch to Samsung

Just found an open box excellent condition at Best Buy for 600.00. They said it was a screw up but honored it

Yes I bought mine at launch deal only 900 been the best with all the software updates plus Android 15 beta is the best. Mine never got hot plus the best pictures on a foldable. I still have my Z Fold 3 now 4 years on the shelf. But the Pixel Fold beat most phones in MKHD blind camera test hands down so Google processing is that good. Love the app pairs too. The hing is better that Z Fold.

The OnePlus Open/Oppo Find N3 is the fold to beat, very excited to see what Pixel can do with the Fold 2 though. Hopefully they bring the full camera magic and not a gimped down version of.

I had a zfold 5 and ended up not liking it. Dents on the spine and the outer screen was pretty hard to use for my hand size. That and the cameras were crap. I have the s24 ultra now but part of me misses that inner screen for streaming. I also like this one ui now, but hate the galaxy watch 6 classic. I have magically lost a half day of battery life and all samsung wanted was a factory reset. Now i may have to send it back with leas than a year on it.

My inner screen broke due to a bit of pocket lint getting caught at the edge of the display (where there is no screen protector). The phone was 5 weeks old and google said tough luck. They want a £1000 minimum to fix it. Told them to jog on. Never wasting my money on google products again.

The fold 4 screen looks like the iphone 7 or the mini iphone screen size but i like the one hand usefulness.

You people don't know how to take care of a phone I had the Samsung fold 2 until the fold 5 came out and it just started showing pixels on the folding part. Everything still worked perfect. Learn to handle your phones. Folding phones are awesome
