I recently stumbled upon The Death of Nature and I am reading it currently. A lot of what Merchant is talking about in this lecture can be found in greater detail there. It is really a remarkable book. She does a phenomenal job characterizing the psychological shift that occurred with the Scientific Revolution. I've studied a lot of what she is referring to (i.e. the evolution of scientific thought, mainly with an interest in epistemology), but The Death of Nature has already radically altered my views on the subject. I have found the work to be thoughtful and challenging.
