In 1980 this film left an indelible mark on my teenage psyche that is still felt to this day.

I 1st saw this in 1990. I was 16. I was floored by this film. Work of art.

One of the best opening credit sequences for an American film in the eighties. This film, which Travolta dropped out of, really put Gere over the top.

"The seventies were conceived the morning after Altamont in 1969 and expired during the opening credits of American Gigolo"

If I didn’t know and had to guess, I would say it came out in 87. If someone said this movie was from 1990, I would still believe it. It all looks and sounds trite in hindsight till you realize this was 6 years before Miami Vice.

I think it's safe to say that Giorgio Armani will be forever grateful for this movie.

Fun fact: Today, there are an estimated 500, 000 women in America who work as 'Escorts' i.e. booked over the internet either as independents, or via agencies, and there are an estimated 110, 000 American men who also work as male Escorts i.e. Richard Gere's character but in real life, and as in all things both female and male 'Escorts' come in different price levels, from affordable, to eye wateringly expensive, i.e. quality doesn't come cheap.

Gorgeous car. Wonder how much they saved by ordering without the sun visors, headrests and seat belts. Pretty rare option to get one chrome rear view mirror (passenger side) and one blacked out mirror on the driver's side. Surprised they sprung for the wipers.

If you’re wondering “has family guy goofed around with this film before?”
They have
The gerbil up Gere’s posterior is based on this film I think

The movie that defined the 80s even though it was made in 1979.

Ottimo film peccato per il finale che non è all' altezza. Un opera monca

RG says he's 5'10" but I would say he's closer to 5'8"; I'm not at all gay, but if I was, and was willing to pay $500 for a date, I would want someone who was a six-footer.
