This is more confusing than the old fashion way.

This doesn't make sense.
You colored on 12 of the 12 pieces.

When you colored in the 2/5 it wasn't 6/15.... 3/5

And the 1/4 wasn't 1/4

Then all of a sudden. On the last section you do count all the boxes a d ot becomes 1/10

How do you know when to "count" the section
12 wholes
3- 2/5 = 6/5 = 1 1/5
4 - 1/4 = 4/4 = 1
Then the last
Becomes
2/20 because you're count boxes and nor fractions.
