The worst historical mistake is presuming that present day humanity is better than our ancestors.

It must be obvious, to anyone with a brain, that something HUGE is missing from our History textbooks!

I believe that if the library in Alexandria wasn’t destroyed we would have understood a lot of things we still don’t understand to this day

I wish time travel was a thing. I'd love to travel back and see these amazing statues and things being created.

It is sad that the name of most of the ancient artists are lost. They deserve the credit.

Obviously, whoever carved that statue was VERY skilled.

We assume they were unskilled. They were very very skilled.

Saw this in the 80’s, ran my hands over the smooth polished surface. Just one of the amazing things the ancient Egyptians did, phenomenal

It’s almost as if Bronze Age humans were skilled artisans, who took care and attention with their workmanship. Who’d have thought?
It’s amazing what humans can do if they don’t have TikTok and Netflix to distract them.

You should see how detailed statues in India are. The muscular and bodily details are amazing.

Even in India, temples are curved out from a single granite stone

I think the most important concept to grasp is humility. It is ok to not know shit. It is only bad if we accept it and stop asking questions.

The most important factor is time, I think. Not only were the artisans highly skilled - they did not care about time as we do today. We are watching a 20 sec clip today as we were watching a full 90min documentary 15 years ago. Today, NOBODY knows what patience is anymore

I love Egypt. I went there in my twenties. It’s a fascinating place. The people are wonderful.

The real feat is in creating a sculpture of that size and being able to move it. Limestone is a relatively soft rock that is easy to carve and takes detail very well. Now, freeing that from the bedrock and moving it without cracking that fragile stone… That’s the real magic.

I believe they were much more advanced than we can even imagine.
