Damn. This simplifies the idea correctly.

It's always explained terribly.

It's so simple. The bearing wheel will show Declination north, which is where to put the magnetic arrow, so you know where north really is.

And so, with the adjustment, you can find the degree bearing you need and walk that way with full confidence

Why would you orient the map? Is it just to try to visualize where things are and identify them?
