I lived in Japan when I was 6 and one of the fondest memories i have is my father and I belting out this song in the barracks. I remember we would get every model and spend hours assembling them together.

As an American who was a young boy in the 70’s, Yamato (Star Blazers to me) was as ingrained in my life as Star Wars was. I would rush home after school to catch the next daily episode. The continuing serialized storyline was like no other animated series I had ever seen. There were consequences. People died. It was no kids show. The previous day’s episode was the talk of the playground the next day. Great storytelling knows no nationality. Every time I hear this theme, i still get chills. Yamato Forever!

the female Petty Officer singer is Miyake Yukari, one of the few great vocalists in the whole JSDF, she has an classical album out in Japan

Why Youtube took 7 years to recommend this to me? Here in Brazil the series was called "Patrulha Estelar" and was aired in the 80s. Thanks Japan for this amazing series and thanks Japanese Navy Band for this incredible performance.

I was a 2yo italian boy when my father introduced to me Star Blazers. My young brain couldn't even describe how much it was beautiful, from art syle to the soundtrack.
20 years later I'm still heavly invested in Leiji works. I have built the 2199 model kit version of Yamato, read the manga and watched this video countless time.

I still whish one day I could be a Black Tiger

Truly amazing to watch a naval band paying such homage to an animated series from the 70s/80s. It just shows how powerfully the Yamato myth transcends time and equally inspires generations of fans and military alike !
Superb singers and musicians, just wish I could have been present at this great performance !

The Big guy on the right (Petty officer 1st class) sounds almost like Mr. Isao Sasaki (the original Yamato OP singer). These guys got quality and the Orchestra sounds really good !!!

2022 and I find this preciosity! I've been a humanitarian worker, missionary and later a teacher in many countries of the world. I had YAMATO in a CD in my car and used to "load up" listening to it on my way to the airport or to rescue operations. Star Blazers marked my youth and I loved it! At 19 I enlisted and became part of the crew of Mercy Ships, one of my jobs was to pilot the ship - guess what I remembered everytime I was at the helm? Yamatoooo!!! Thank you for posting this!!!

Ichiban! I am from the USA and my grandmother is from Japan I remember watching this show when it was in the United States. You did such a wonderful job and you should be proud of yourselves.
