If I were to be a conspiracy theorist, the repair costs seem to be extremely high around 6.7-8.0 BR and I think it’s because that’s right on the cusp of top tier and modern vehicles (which many people grind for). So for those who really want to go higher, they are pretty much forced to purchase GE with real money to get there, or grind for a very very long time and do really well.

I've been clean from war thunder for a couple months. I feel great. I don't worry about their terrible updates or balances, I don't have to worry about their horrible events, I don't have to sign in every day, I literally get 1 to 6 hours of my life back every day, and I get to play more than 1 game! I started talking to people again! In real life!!
Feels like I have a life again.

Fun fact, you can disable automatic repairs in the hangar. Not only will this let you repair expensive vehicles for free overnight, and not only will it tick down repair costs each second you spend in the hangar, and not only if you play multiple nations will this ket you repair one while playing the others, this also has no detriment, if you want to play just one loadout it will ask you if you want to repair all before you start a battle, but you'll already save some SL while you were doing whatever you do after coming back from a game.

I started "playing" WT because I've always liked the M60A2 and saw that it was modelled in the game. I quickly realized that the way WT is structured, it would take months, even paying for premium, to actually get to where you "unlock" it.
I was like "WTF?!?"
If they had it where I could "buy" any specific tank (and of course if the crew skill thing didn't cripple your game play until you grinded that too), I gladly would have paid to subscribe to WT.
As it is, F' Gaijin and their scammy business model. I'll continue to slow grind goofing off with reserve vehicles and free repairs, until I get down to it, or completely lose interest/patience with the game.
