In this video we introduce you to the Hirasawa Koi Farm, also known as the Marusei Koi Farm.

The Hirasawa Koi Farm was founded in 1960 by Seitaro Hirasawa. Who is still actively helping on the farm. The farm is located in the Niigata area of Japan, near Ojiya.

In the beginning, Seitaro Hirasawa was focussing on Ogon varieties. Seitaro started his Koi farm back in 1960, because he liked the Ogon variety, and started breeding with them. After a couple of succesful years of breeding Ogon, he decided to start experimenting with other varieties.

Later on, when his two sons were involved on the Koi farm, they together agreed to start working and become the largest Koi farm of Japan. And offer any variety of Koi to their customers. They did become one of the largest, and are actually still one of the largest Koi breeders in Japan.

The family owns over 300 mudponds for growing up Koi and over 125 fry ponds. The total surface of the ponds exceeds 100.000 square metres. They own over 6 Koi keeping houses. And their largest mudpond is over 16 hectares in size.

Hirasawa is known for Jumbo Koi. Especially their one coloured Koi become huge, like Karashigoi, Chagoi and Mugashi Ogon. Exceeding the size of 100 cm is no exception.
