A personal style video sharing with you the key things that helped me find and transform my style :)

I've dabbled with many different styles ranging from minimal/modern to feminine, classic, androgenous and just about everything before landing on what my style is now. ----------
❥ SIZING
I am 160cm, 5'3, usually AU 6, EU 34 or US 0-2, XS, or Levi's W25. For other jeans (& other stories, reformation) I am usually a W25.

Runs large, size down if possible

Use code 'helenlumiere10' for an extra 10 percent off during the sale

Black cami - old Glassons

Brown coat - old Mango

Size on the smaller side, if in between sizes, go up (I find XS quite fitted on waist for me)

Blue floral blouse - old Sezane

Love your tips, so wise. That one on the importance of using statement pieces really caught me: you're right, there is no fun in putting together an outfit if the idea of wearing it doesn't get you excited!

Thank you for these tips! Especially #2, don't compromise on details. I used to think I was crazy for returning an item that I loved, except for one little thing. I would panic and think, maybe the perfect 'shirt/pant/jacket' just doesn't exist, and this is the closest you'll ever find / or I'll just wear this until I find something 100% perfect. But ultimately, it's never worth it!

A couple of thoughts about your video, which by the way I really appreciated, it was so thoughtful. Yes, it is time consuming together outfits in advance and photograph them or write them down or however you want to keep a record of what worked, but for me it is down time. It is something I enjoy doing the kind of lets my mind run peacefully, as opposed to work or things that I'm doing for other people. So for me, it is a pleasurable, easy task that I do for one hour every day to build up outfits I like. Secondly, as well as who we dress for. I definitely dress for the pleasure of seeing myself well put together, but I'm actually surprised by how not infrequently I get comments about my outfit. One woman in my book group said, "You always look so stylish, it's something I don't bother with myself and would never know how to do, but I really admire it in you" and that was one of the nicest compliments I ever got because it meant that someone who didn't normally think about fashion had actually thought about fashion because my outfit roused her from her indifference. I hope that doesn't sound conceited, I wasn't dressed in a particularly outstanding way, I had just given thought to what colors and shapes went together and she appreciated. So, yes, I dress for myself, but I always feel a little rush from a compliment (which are never from men, I might add!!)

I've gained so much understanding and confidence of my personal style this last 1.5 years. Working at home, I don't mind experimenting because my colleagues don't usually see my full outfit and if I don't like it I can change anytime. It's been so fun to try things I wouldn't normally have the confidence to and to relearn to do these things for myself only.

It’s like that “on-trend” bubble gum pink, I just don’t like it. But, I will wear my pale pinks forever, although they are rarely “in”. I don’t think colors date as much as styles, and should be chosen to suit oneself, not because they’re trending.

Great tips! I completely agree that you should wear what you want regardless of what other people think. If it makes you happy and you feel good in it, that's all that matters.

This video also made me excited to be able to wear fall/winter clothing again. We've reached the point in the season where I'm tired of my summer wardrobe haha.

I completely agree! Wear what makes you feel like the best version of yourself.

In my own journey I was often influenced by people, you need that white black grey, those denim jeans, that "classic white button down" I'd collect these things and look at my wardrobe bored to the gills .

It's okay if you aren't basic, and it's also okay to make mistakes.

Your personal style, as is mine, is a fluid thing. It changes as we grow as people, as we experience things, and experiments along with fails, are how you find out what works and what doesn't.

My advice to us girls and boys who love fashion? Be patient with yourself, and don't be afraid to wear it!

These tips are quite helpful, Helen. I have been trying to add some color and fun back into my basics. However, I'm still struggling with the outfit formulas. Although I logically understand what looks best together and on me, I still seem to only wear oversized on oversized. My body is changing and I think my mind has not yet caught up 😅

Statement item tip is really a good one! Sometimes Having all the basics is not the answer...

I agree. I would be so bored if I only had basic pieces. They are the necessary framework for a wardrobe, but it’s the more special items that make clothes fun.

Agree with Outfits formulas are being super helpful when trying to put an outfit together in a rush or in the morning half sleep 😅

Great tips! 💕

I just discovered your channel and I like the content, very helpful.

When it comes to the oversized styles, I think is very important to take into account body shape, I have an hour glass figure and have tried embracing the oversized clothing styles but they do not look good on me at all. I prefer things that are more form fitting, not tight.

Also, I agree with you about the importance of tailoring your clothes. I’m 5ft tall so even petite clothing can be too long on me, thankfully I know a bit of sewing and with some YouTube tutorials, I now tailor my own hems and blazer sleeves, since doing that I have noticed a big difference, I no longer look like I’m wearing someone else’s clothes.

Thank you so much for your videos and insight, Helen - I love how you always encourage us to just be true to ourselves and wear what we like and feel great in over just following what's popular in the moment. I was wondering if I could request a video topic - I would love to learn from you how you care for and store coats during regular (winter) wear, especially cashmere or other natural fiber coats. Thank you!

Great video, Helen, thanks. Your style is very different from mine, but I find it very beautiful! Take-home for me: trying to put items I don't wear very often into tried and tested outfit formulas rather than just grabbing the usuals.

Great video🌸🌸
Since I have discovered the 7 universal styles, my colour palette and the body type I have, everything is easier to shop.
The 7universal styles combine and give other sub-styles like preppy, bohochic, classic, hipster...
I am: traditional, romantic with touches of creative
To try trends I shop in thirft stores and if I like it, maybe I would buy it in an expensive material, if not, I doesn't hurt much to pay 3$ for that item👌
