The world's largest ship, Majestic Mærsk of Copenhagen, attracted hundreds of thousands spectators and visitors

The Triple E event last week in Copenhagen included guided tours onboard the world's largest ship, Majestic Mærsk, and a huge exhibition (12,000 m2) on Langelinie quay in central Copenhagen that displayed information on shipping, containerisation, container contents, life at sea, and how the world's largest ship is also its most energy efficient.

This extraordinary vessel -- one of 20 ordered by Maersk Line - is powered by twin MAN B&W low speed S80ME type engines. The three Es in Triple E correspond to the ship's main attributes: Economy of scale, Energy efficiency and Environmentally improved.

Maersk Line's previous largest vessels (of the Emma Maersk class) have a capacity of 15,500 teu. With 18,000 teu, the Triple-E class offers a 16% increase.

The Triple-E class vessel is 400 metres long, 59 metres wide and 73 metres high. That's three metres longer and three metres wider than the Maersk E-class. The pure steel weight of the vessel is approximately 55,000 tons. That does not include ballast water, cargo, etc.

The Triple-E class vessel has two four-bladed propellers instead of the 6-bladed and larger propeller installed on Maersk E-type class vessels.

The Triple-E class vessel is manned by a crew of 22. The Triple-E will sail between Asia and Northern Europe. It takes 24 to 25 days to sail from Shanghai to Rotterdam on the current trade.
