Important to mention: Different rodents have different necessities! Rats, Guinea Pigs, Gerbils are all social rodents (meaning they need companionship), but hamsters are solitary, having more than one hamster is dangerous, they might fight and it's usually to the death. Also, female mice can have companions, but male mice are to be kept alone. So always research the pet you want to have, because it's important to know how to provide the best possible care for them.

Yup, it's true! I have three chaos potatoes, but many of my pet rats have died, so at multiple times, I only had one rat (Buttercup). I must say it makes a difference, Buttercup is usually the sweetest little sweet potato but when she was lonely, she was honestly a little meanie.

My friend mentioned wanting a rat(we were talking about different pets we'd like to have) and me and my best friend both immediately went "You need at least two" and took turns listing the different reasons lol. I've had a conure for about a 2 years now. We play with him and spoil him a lot, but most of the day we have school and work so he's alone. Recently my mother got another conure, and I've seen such a shift in mood with my first bird. He seems a lot happier now that he has a friend to play with when we're gone. Animals should always have a friend, especially if the humans are going to be gone for long periods of time.

Had the same thing learning about cats. "Oh don't worry they're independent animals" well they typically have the best health in pairs or groups up to four (sometimes five) due to them being less social than many animals on this planet but still needing to play, groom, and even protect each other.
