Extending your leg forward toes out is an assertion of dominance. The longer you hold it the lower their defense drops.

Every variation has its purpose. The toe kick in Changquan is meant to be aimed anywhere from the groin to the naval and can be a snappy stabbing motion or more of a push. We train with shoes though

He’s right, but when has anyone (other than a dancer) kicked with a pointy toe? It’s ALWAYS been with the toes safely back.

I actually tried Kicking with my toes (not full power obviously) and it's not that bad. You just need to use your Big Toe and don't let the toe fold downwards upon impact.

I am also a swimmer and when kicking freestyle swimming, your feet has to be flat. It became muscle memory and my coach never corrected me... Thx so much

Ahh. The triangle is complete. Kempo/karate guys make fun of Taekwondo guys. Taekwondo guys making fun of BJJ guys. And BJJ guys are sitting on the floor, insulting both while trying to pull guard.

As others have mentioned, its usually for kicking upwards, to the groin, not with the toes, top of the foot. Imo You are demonstraiting two different kicks. You shouldnt kick upwards like that with the toes back, you will likely damage them. Using it for a forward kick, using the hips to push forwards rather than up, yes, pull the toes back.
