$50 Tenkara Rod Review

When I first heard that this video is made by a junior, I almost stopped it. But you are reasonable young fisherman! Thumbs up from Finland!

I have a dozen of these rods that I use with a veterans group. I love the small zoom rods at 8'10" I have access to some smaller tighter places. The small rods are made for the small 70 cfs or smaller streams where the average catch is under 12". If you expect to catch larger fist then for sure get the longer stiffer rods. I have landed a 21" brown on the small zoom rod, but it was one of those times when every thing went right and luck was in my favor. The line keepers are a good idea, but they always pop off or dry rot. If you know how to wrap a rod it's pretty easy to secure a couple of paper clips to the rod to wrap your rod around when you need to break your rod down to travel through thick cover. Over all a fair and honest review. Good luck!!! Tight lines.

Great review Evan. I hope your love of tenkara continues. I have a lot of tenkara rods and have started to look at some of the cheaper rods. If you do more reviews in the future be sure to show a little footage of how well the rod flexes and returns to center point. This is one of the key points of a good tenkara rod. Knowing the tip action tells how well it is going to cast. Again great job.

I was wondering about the 50-60.00 models. You have convinced me to buy one. There is a Y/T video on a fellow catching a 3-4 lb. Trout on the cheap one. It did excellent. I thought it might break, but didn't.

Love your review. In addition to the benefits of buying a tenkara rod verses using a cane pole is the ability to use subtle manipulation techniques to attract fish that would otherwise not be interested in a dead drift.
