My take on the breaking news that Volkswagen Motorsport GmbH is being “terminated” as part of a “realignment and further focus” by Volkswagen AG.

DISCLOSURE : I have an existing sponsorship relationship with Volkswagen. The opinions in this video are entirely my own, and do not reflect opinions, or anything at all directly or indirectly related to or from, Volkswagen or any of its divisions or partners, unless independently read from their public statement regarding this event.

I’m an enthusiast and fan, honest. :-)

All photos have been taken by myself, except screenshots from Instagram belonging to Volkswagen Motorsport or it’s drivers or partners listed below. You should go follow and support them :

Official statement from Volkswagen AG :

**CORRECTION NOTE** : No one in the comments has called me out on this but I know I messed up a simple fact on the video..: Volkswagen Motorsport has the company registration of GmbH in Germany. Volkswagen (the parent company) has the registration of Volkswagen AG. This is the type of legal setup similar to LLC vs Corp in the USA. I misspeak MANY times in this video, and I apologise. I know the difference, I know as a nerd how both companies are set up, but I was emotional and in the swing of things, sorry. Every time that I say Volkswagen Motorsport when talking about the business entity from Hannover, please just pretend that I then say GmbH :-)

Bad news for motorsport, but hopefully the employees that are now part of VW AG, an give us some more racing pedigree in our road cars. I'm also super excited that the racing series is not ending in South Africa, we can all enjoy it for a few more years. VW Motorsport AG was the racing car for the people, easy to start with, but with the best rewards.

I wonder what manufacturer supported motorsport will look like in 20+ years, though like you said, in one form or another vws will be raced

One more thing that dies in 2020. Great explanation Jamie. But I do think this was a long time coming all the way back to 2015 when they had pulled them selves out of racing and with there curent restructuring/retooling. I’m sure once there’s ev push further along we will see some sort of racing revival all be it in different form.

Pretty well explained in terms of what this means in the larger picture, hope to see VW Motorsport living on outside of Germany

Hi Jamie, I'm a new sub and am really enjoying your channel, just a quick question and although not yet at 25 y/o for import into the USA, Would you have eyes on a VAG Skoda Fabia VRS MK1 TDI PD 130 in future?

Privateers will keep it alive as well as MS in other countries, but what will it do for parts? Like you were saying...will this spark another aftermarket surge like how it was in the 90's??

It’s sad but they might call it a different name to reflect the future cars they are planning to sell.

So basically if you want a fast VW you have to settle for a Audi RS3? Wait I think that was already the case

Think of how much money this department of VW was costing the company with no events being held due to the virus. That is a lot of employee's on the payroll, for nothing.

Sadly I think Audi's decision and VAG's decision come from the same place. Electric racing doesn't seem to appeal to the average electric car buyer, and in the future, the Volkswagen brand will be all electric.

Where I do find some hope is the news today that Porsche is launching a pilot program in Chile to produce gasoline made from carbon dioxide filtered out of the atmosphere, which will have effectively zero net emissions when combusted.

I believe they will keep doing electric racing stuff, but they have lost so much money this year they needed to get rid of un nessassary spending so motorsport had to go. For now.
