They are technically the same but they look different because 1. The withereds suits would not been able to be repaired because the amount of blood that stained the inside of the suit so they had to re design the suits. and 2. Some of their endo parts would have to have been replaced because of age and probably blood Reminence as well.

in the game its actually stated that fazbear entertainment tried to repair the old animatronics but stopped mid way and just used the old animatronics for spare parts to make the toy animatronics..

one thing that completely shatters the theory:

fnaf1 phone guy talks about the bite of '87 (literally the ending of fnaf2) in past tense, meaning it already happened, meaning fnaf2 is before fnaf1

I always thought that the reason they look different is because of what Afton did in the FNAF 3 minigames.

See, I believe that Afton actually disasembled the animatronics before we play as Michael in FNAF 1. That way he can get the remnant from the endoskeletons he needs for the Funtimes in Sister Location. We can also tell that these are slightly older variations of the models since Freddy and Bonnie sport buttons on their design in the minigame when they don't have these buttons in FNAF 1 and we all know that Scott doesn't do coincidences. Of course, in doing this, he unknowingly frees the spirits of the children from their animatronic bodies and they take their revenge on Afton as he gets springlocked in his own suit.

Now the kids are free from their animatronics bodies, but they don't actually have any peace or closure. So I don't think they actually leave the building. Instead, they stay in the building and they haunt that building. This could explain all of the 'halluciniations' we see in FNAF 1. It could be the ghosts trying to communicate with Mike, yes, but it could be even creepier if these things in the environment were ACTUALLY CHANGING thanks to the fact that the animatronic haunt the building. We see posters changing, writing on the walls, a circus organ playing and that easter egg in the backstage where the endoskeleton and all the heads turn to look at the camera could be explained as a hallucination OR those heads ACTUALLY MOVED because of the children now haunting the building.

Of course, Fazbear Entertainment did have to put the animatronics back together again and this does explain why so many parts of the animatronic's endoskeleton is different since Afton would have taken a lot of their parts. Once the animatronics had basically almost been rebuilt from the ground up, the ghosts with nowhere else to go, haunt the animatronics again as that's really all they know. So they now haunt the characters AND the building. We can also see in the FNAF movie how they haunt the building as well as the characters as we see lights flickering to various characters' presence, doors closing and opening on their own, pots and pans being rattled around and heck the whole building literally comes crashing down thanks to their rage once they've springlocked Afton.

So, in a way, they are still kind of the same robots. But they've literally had to be completely restored and improved thanks to what Afton did. That's partly why Freddy's would need a security guard even when the place is shut down since Fazbear Entertainment might think that what happened to the animatronics was because of some vandal that broke in to mess things up when we know it was actually Afton. It would also give another reason for Mike to go to the FNAF 1 location: to investigate Freddy's AND because it was his father's last known location.

Small thing, but I'm fairly certain Fredbear wasn't retired before or probably during Fredbear's Family Diner

Phone Guy is familiar with the old animatronics, but is less familiar with Fredbear's Family Diner

The old restaurant the Withereds came from was probably a similar layout, or even the same building as what would later be used as the FNAF 1 location, since Phone Guy also mentions that the old location had doors for the office, unlike the FNAF 2 location

Baby proofing the animatronics is a good way to explain the missing top set of teeth on the FNaF 1 models. If we imagine that they removed the top teeth to keep anymore kids (or unlucky dayshift guards) from meeting grizzly law suit ensuing death.

UCN confirms Fredbear has the FNAF 1 styling

They are canonically the same Animatronics. The true and obvious explanation for why the designs are different is because Scott "upgraded" the designs of the classic Animatronics for the second game. Let us examine the material, from Dawko's interview and some Reddit posts we can understand that although Scott had a lot of experience when it comes to making models, Five Nights at Freddy's was very experimental. Five Nights at Freddy's 2 was more developed and throught out. We can see that when making the Withered Animatronics Scott gave them upper teeth, some buttons and other small detail to overhaul the designs. Some people could argue that the Withered Animatronics are different for lore reasons but just look at Springtrap and Afton ("Scraptrap"). They are canonically the exact same character but his design took a 360º between games. Scott is not consistent with designs and everyone knows that. Great video regardless. I love when people come up with theories to try and explain Scott's inconsistencies from a lore prespective!

My personal theory is pretty similar, after the 1987 location closed down with the toys being discarded and the withereds being kept around for a new location, Fazbear Entertainment redesigned the suits because the main reason why the withereds weren't used in the 1987 location was because "they were so ugly" as Phone Guy says, so they gave them a cuter and friendlier suit, they also made their jaws a lot more safer by having less power on the servos or pneumatics depending on what technology they used (realistically it would be pneumatics as that's what real animatronics use and they can be pretty powerful but Phone Guy mentions the fact that they use servos in FNAF 1, so maybe they either had servos all along or replaced pneumatics with servos.)
one of the changes on their jaws was to remove the upper row of teeth on Freddy and Bonnie. These redesigns also made Freddy look less like Fredbear (who most likely looked more like the Withered Freddy design than the FNAF 1 Freddy design shown on UCN which makes zero sense if you think about it for more than 2 minutes)
Fazbear Entertainment would reuse a lot of the metal parts on the original endoskeletons, which are the parts that the remnant holds onto in the first place so the kids' spirits would still be there.
And like you said in the video, they disposed of the corpses found stuffed inside of the animatronics as Fazbear Entertainment reports dead people as "missing" and covers up their deaths.

So in conclusion Fazbear Entertainment is evil and everyone involved with the company or it's decisions deserves to burn in hell for eternity expect maybe for the minimum wage workers like the cashiers and security guards.

My theory is that the withered designs came after the fnaf 1 design, with the fnaf 1 being the original prototype designs and the withereds being a later design that ended up being used in fredbear's. Because the children died in the withered design, they would have went back to the original design because 1: they were safer and 2: fazbear entertainment wouldnt like new animatronics looking like the ones that (at least they knew) killed children and 3: they would have casings / parts for this design laying around. They used the withereds parts, because they were upgraded with better technology. This is why the fnaf 1 animatronics are still haunted and why both designs appear in promo art at the same time.

Evidence supports that the withered animatronics had the bodies removed, and the animatronics in FNAF 1 had no bodies, and the reason (looks to) W foxy has a endo 02, is cause he has a edited endo for his ears, Chica is the only one who has a not edited FNAF 01 endo.
