In this video Jenny reviews the latest 2021 Subaru XV Hybrid.

Well, it looks like the new XV Hybrid ticks all the boxes that a hybrid in this segment needs and also adds some more. It is a Subaru, so it has a proper AWD system, it is a hybrid with the same system that pushes the Forester, but this time working not as hard due to the smaller body and it is compact enough to be a great choice for the city.

It seems that the XV Hybrid is a great car for a wide variety of people, I’m also a fan of SUVs and the XV gets my vote in styling too.

The power comes from a combination of a 2 L petrol with direct injection and 110 kW and 196 Nm of torque and a 12.3 kW and 66 Nm electric motor. The official fuel consumption figure for this sub-compact SUV is 6.5 litres per 100 km.

It is a nice step from the Internal Combustion Engine-only cars without any of the fuss or range anxiety in a competent, spacious small car. But does the Subaru XV Hybrid justify it’s Australian price tag.

The vent in the back is an air intake for the hybrid battery. You can find the same thing on a Prius.

I'm pretty sure the vent is an intake for a fan which cools the battery. The Prius and RAV4 hybrid have a similar air cooling system for their batteries

yay, favorite reviewer, greetings from East Berlin, err, Melbourne!!

7:20 the vent is for heat dissipation for the hybrid batteries, not for passengers. It's quite common in hybrid vehicles.

And i've been waiting on Jenny to come to the party.. 🤩🤩

That vent is for battery cooling. They have one for RAV4 as well.

Unfortunately, Subaru didn't make a serious attempt at making a hybrid. They just wanted to jump onto the hype of the Toyota Rav 4 Hybrid. There are not significant savings in fuel economy, there is an unreasonable increase in price and not having a spare tyre in an offroader is unacceptable. The standard base model XV and Forester are both excellent cars, the hybrids are an embarrassment. Thanks Jenny, your honest reviews are very helpful as they cover everything the regular driver wants to know.

I have the 2023 Crosstrek Limited PHEV and it is fantastic! I can run EV for all of my city driving and the Atkinson's cycle 2L Boxer gives me great gas mileage on my 500+km highway trip I must do each week. The space in the boot is sufficient for my luggage, camera gear, and tools. Snowboards, bikes, and kayaks fit nicely on the roof. It is fantastic in heavy snow, heavy winds, off-road and in the mountains. It fits everything that I need :)

Would be much appreciated if 2.5L engine available in Australia for Subaru XV

My wife has loved the XV from the very first time she saw it. I love Subaru's all wheel drive. But I gotta say, the hybrid aspect of this vehicle is quite underwhelming.
Still...if I'm not too broke, I probably would buy her one.

Compared to the Hybrid model we get here in the US, there’s some noticeable differences. The trunk space is reduced due to the battery in the trunk & of course we don’t get a spare tire. The Hybrid model here is typically based on the Limited trim, which is top of the line with leather seating, 8 inch infotainment system, led steering responsive headlights, etc. It’s called the XV there, but here just the Crosstrek.
Side note: if your reviewing cars for prospective buyers to see, at least do your research to know what a button or feature does!

I do want a small city suv with basic off road abilities - and the XV is really the only choice, but certainly not the hybrid

The trim level is meh for a hybrid version. I've got the 2.0i-S and I like that trim much better and I've got a spare.

I was looking at buying XV Hybrid but not any more very poor fuel economy.

Hold up, this is the 2020 model.
Also, the 2021 model comes in two versions the L (mid range feature equivalent to the midrange petrol version), and the S model which has the luxury features you were having a cry about.
I am not sure, but i think it has the curb (side view) monitor

So I repeat, you have reviewed the 2020 model.

I'm pretty sure if Subaru got rid of those CVTs their sales would go up🤔
Or do people not really care?
These cars get terrible fuel economy for what they are😬
