Fun Fact: Tempura, a Japanese dish, only exists because the Portugues introduced the concept of dipping vegetables in batter then deep frying them.

I think Simu was upset because the bobba guy claimed that he invented something new, something better, when it’s not. Popping boba has been around for so long. And it’s originated from Asia.
It’s not like he said that “you can’t do this because it’s strictly for Asian” He’s said that ‘you can’t claim that this is your innovation when somebody has been doing it for years and refused to acknowledge that.’ …..

Culture isn't appropriated, it is shared.

a lot of context is missing here, they called it's not ethnic anymore because it's popping boba but popping boba already exists they didn't invent or improve anything watch the whole episode, please

Tell me you didnt watch the whole thing without telling me that. Simu Liu wasnt angry about the "idea of sharing things". Those people were talking as if boba was something unhealthy and they are trying to reinvent it into something healthy. They even said they dont know whats in boba, seriously??. If someone comes to me, and said my cultural food is gross and proceeds to give me the same food and also asks me for 1 million, I would also be angry. And Simu liu was actually level headed with it.

Unless you're going to wear traditional Chinese clothes, have traditional Chinese hair, and speak in Chinese, I don't want to hear it, dude.

This is the same dude who played a Marvel character but refused to sign comics when meeting fans because he felt the comics were racist.

Simu Liu is spouting off what he’s learned from being around Hollywood too much. Culture is meant to be shared, not gate-kept. He’s played a Korean in a show when he’s a Chinese from Canada. Riddle me that!

I think Simu made it clear the problem wasn’t with taking a new spin on a product, many other western brands have done this too. The problem was the marketing and branding. The couple had made some pretty disparaging remarks when it comes to bubble tea and its “shady ingredients”. They loudly proclaim “gone are those days” when you are lining up for those unhealthy sugary drinks. If you’re from Taiwan or Asia in general, pretty sure you will be offended too. Boba has been a staple drink in Taiwan since the 80s, is still popular now, and it’s pretty much synonymous with its culture. They could have simply said that they were inspired by Boba, or that they wanted to take a fresh take on it’s but instead they decided to diss on the very product they are based on, and an entire culture of people

Please watch the whole video. The creator said boba is a "new trendy thing", "no one knows whats in it" and "its not ethnic anymore" they are marketing poping boba as something new( when it always existed). Their product is a healthy version. (Its not)

Simu Liu did state that he joined Marvel to push an agenda so I’m not surprised on his comments.

Guys, here me out I think he just has a problem with them saying quote on quote "making a better bubble tea", or that its "unethical" or that we don't know whats in bubble tea

I think the issue Simu have is that they claimed that they’re making boba tea “better”, “healthier”, like what’s wrong with the original ones? And truth be told, popping boba, alcoholic boba, boba in a bottle, none of these are new.

You can tell this is a Westernized Asian because real asian people do not agree that its cultural appropriation. They actually love it when other people do stuff from their culture.

First of all: "Asian" is not a culture. Secondly: Culture, especially cuisine, has always had a history of mutual influence and development.

How to take something completely out to context to spark outrage in the comments and gain interactions on your channel, bloody well done. Did you even watch the entire clip?

This clip is taken out of context. Watch the whole clip. The problem is not "cultural appropriation". It's the fact that they're launching a hypocritical product that is just a western version of bubble tea, but calling it better just because it's better at being western, whilst simultaneously putting down the original product that has been consumed for years. He's definitely in the right here.
