Dynamic Facial Expressions of Emotion Transmit Hierarchical Information over Time

Facial expressions have evolved to be a near-optimal system of communication. Jack et al. show that dynamic facial expressions of emotion transmit a developing hierarchy of information over time. Early on, they transmit few, biologically rooted signals (such as eyelid raising), which gives rise to specific confusions (such as fear or surprise); more complex signals support the discrimination of all six emotion categories (for example, eyebrow raising discriminates surprise from fear). Their data question the common notion that human emotion comprises six basic categories, instead suggesting four.

a must do study for AI, +for social disorders like Autism etc. an AI may later help, an Autistic, less problematic interaction with others. By artificial means, an autistic or socially withdrawn person may get useful social signals from a portable, emotion recognition AI! also, there's obvious security benifits to be able to recognise liars. also, waves alone can pick up facial micro movement! an awesome tool for honesty in business +buying in shops. a portable lie detector is the future of AI facial/ emotional recognition! tho military +police already use a simpler version!

if each emotion has its own facial expression then emotions must be incompatible among themselves, because we cannot have the eyes open (for fear) and close (for happiness) at the same time. Fear and anger must be incompatibles also because you cannot tense (anger) and relax (fear) your face at the same. Is compatibility a factor taken in consideration for determining which are the basic emotions?

I am very curious regarding why 'contempt' did not make it to the list. I need answers.
